Description
XS_Scuba Stalker_Camo Freediving Mask
Introducing the new XS_Scuba Stalker_Camo Freediving Mask in addition to the original Stalker mask. The original Stalker mask was introduced a few years ago and quickly gained popularity among freedivers and spearos. To provide more options to spearo customers, there’s now three camouflage versions. Available in black camo, green camo and blue camo using the latest water transfer technology on the silicone mask skirts.
- Camo look blends into the environment
- Lenses brought in close to the diver’s eyes for maximum peripheral vision
- The matte finish of the silicone skirt prevents light reflection
- The buckles allow for simple pull tightening and counter-posed squeeze buttons for loosening
- The buckles are positioned directly on the skirt minimising weight and drag
- The low volume prolongs the need for equalisation and allows easy clearing
- Includes mask storage box
A freediving mask is a specialised mask designed specifically for freedivers (people who dive without breathing apparatus, such as scuba tanks). These masks are engineered to provide enhanced visibility, comfort, and performance during breath-hold diving. Freediving requires a mask that can handle the demands of depth changes while minimising air consumption and maximising the diver’s ability to equalise and remain streamlined.
Here are the key features and benefits of a freediving mask:
1. Low Volume Design
Low volume means there is less air inside the mask, which is essential for freedivers. The reduced air volume allows for easier mask clearing (getting rid of water that might enter the mask) and requires less effort when equalising the mask at greater depths. A low-volume mask also allows you to equalise faster as you descend and ascend.
2. Wide Field of View
Freediving masks typically feature wide lenses that provide a larger field of vision. This helps freedivers maintain awareness of their surroundings and allows them to enjoy the beauty of the underwater environment, such as marine life and the reef, without needing to constantly turn their head or move their body.
3. Comfortable Fit
Freediving masks are often made with soft silicone skirts, which provide a comfortable and secure seal against the face. This is crucial for extended dives as a good seal prevents water from entering the mask and avoids leaks that could disrupt the dive. The flexible silicone also allows the mask to adapt to different face shapes and sizes.
4. Streamlined Shape
Freediving masks are designed to be aerodynamic and low profile to reduce drag and resistance in the water. This streamlined shape makes the mask ideal for long, smooth dives where you need to conserve energy and reduce resistance while swimming or diving.
5. No Frame (Frameless Design)
Many freediving masks are frameless, meaning they do not have a rigid frame around the lenses. This design reduces weight and volume, improving comfort and fit. Frameless masks also often have fewer parts, which makes them less likely to break or malfunction.
6. Improved Equalisation
The design of a freediving mask helps with equalisation as you descend. Since there is less air in the mask (low volume), it’s easier to balance the pressure inside the mask with the pressure outside as you dive deeper, helping prevent discomfort or the need to exhale to equalise.
7. Durability
High-quality silicone and tempered glass are common materials used in the construction of freediving masks. These materials offer a durable and long-lasting design that can withstand the pressure and wear of repeated use.
8. Minimal Internal Volume
A key characteristic of many freediving masks is their minimal internal volume. This feature is essential because it minimises the amount of air inside the mask that needs to be cleared if any water enters. This helps conserve the air that freedivers have in their lungs, as they can more easily clear water from the mask with a quick exhale.
Whether you’re diving to explore marine life or pushing your limits in deep freediving, a specialised mask helps enhance your experience and performance. Check out other freediving masks we have!
