A single arm underwater camera tray is a popular choice for underwater photographers and videographers due to its unique design and functionality. Here are the main reasons why someone might choose to use a single-arm tray:
1. Increased Manoeuvrability:
Better Movement: A single arm tray allows for easier and quicker movement underwater. With only one arm supporting the camera, you have more freedom to position your camera and shoot from different angles without being restricted by a bulky two-arm setup.
Less Drag: Since the setup is lighter and more compact, it reduces the drag you experience underwater. It will be easier to move around and navigate through tighter spaces or swift currents.
2. Compact and Lightweight:
Easier Handling: Single-arm trays are generally lighter and smaller compared to dual-arm trays, making them more portable and easier to handle. Great for divers who need to carry less gear or want a simpler setup.
Lower Fatigue: With a lighter setup, there’s less strain on your arms and hands, allowing for longer underwater photography sessions without fatigue or discomfort.
3. Cost-Effective:
More Affordable: Single-arm trays tend to be more budget-friendly than dual-arm setups. This makes them a good option for beginner or recreational divers who want to get into underwater photography without spending too much.
4. Ideal for Simple Lighting Setups:
Attaching a Single Light: A single-arm tray is well-suited for a basic setup with one strobe or video light. If you’re shooting in environments where minimal lighting is required, a single-arm system can be sufficient for providing the necessary illumination while keeping the rig simple.
5. Flexibility for One-Handed Operation:
Greater Control with One Hand: The single arm tray allows you to control the camera with one hand while adjusting the lighting or positioning with the other. This provides more flexibility in controlling the camera, adjusting settings, and framing shots while still keeping your setup manageable.
6. Easier for Compact Camera Systems:
Perfect for Smaller Setups: A single-arm tray is an excellent choice for compact or action cameras, which don’t require as much stabilisation or light. It provides just enough support for those types of cameras without being too bulky.
7. Reduced Complexity:
Simpler Setup: If you’re looking for a no-fuss, straightforward camera rig, a single-arm tray minimises complexity while still offering the essential features needed for underwater photography, such as stability and accessory mounting options.
Conclusion:
A single-arm underwater camera tray is ideal for underwater photographers who want a lightweight, manoeuvrable, and budget-friendly option for capturing clear, steady shots. It’s perfect for simpler lighting setups, one-handed operation, and compact camera systems, making it an excellent choice for those who prioritise flexibility and ease of use without the bulk of a dual-arm rig.
